YRSFood, food photographer. Why is food photography so important
and why is it worth the investment? Well to put it in a single word - digital! No we do not mean digital cameras we mean the internet - everything we now do from ordering a take-away to booking a table at a restaurant or trying a new product from a retailer we order online with... yes digital. Poor imagery has never had the potential to ruin a business idea like it can today.
So why YRSFood, a food photographer - can't anyone take the pictures? No, because you need a specialist that's why. Your images that you use of your menu and product are a great competition leveller. No matter how large or powerful your competition is, when investing in good photography, well thought through compositions and with a strong attention to detail, you can become as strong a food or beverage 'brand' or high street name, as anyone else.
We're talking about imagery that demonstrates visually, the promise of your product's taste, the quality of ingredients and the care of production or process - whether you are a food producer, manufacturer or restaurant owner. So you really have to look to a food photographer specialist to do this, not a generalist. We're a food photography specialist that works UK wide from two studio bases (although a lot of our
work is done on site - our clients premises). The food studios are run by a commercial photographer, with over 33 years marketing expertise as well as commercial photography.
It is our aim when we take photographs for clients to bring your products or dishes to life - show the texture... yes, imagine the taste and enjoy the use of colour.
Our clients aren't just large though, they are industry wide and range the entire food and drink industry spectrum - small smoke houses and butchers, game suppliers and dairy producers, as-well-as many of the restaurants - you can see some examples in our case study library - your-reflection.co.uk/yrs - many of our clients need photographs or images for their brochures and more recently their websites, as they sell increasingly direct to the consumer in a manu-retailer fashion or provide menus for high street locations and holiday planners.
Our style? As a photographer and photography studio, we will create images that are set-piece and inspirational, creating the eating or drinking experience. Our photography will create imagination and 
confidence with your recipes. We are after all food and drink photographers!
About our Food Photography Facilities?
At the moment we are upgrading our studio following a recent move, we cater through our current studio facilities for all forms of photography, having facilities to cater for most food product with storage facilities to keep it fresh and when required, kitchen and cooking options as needed. If you require set piece and life style options no problem. We have a range of lifestyle sets, which can be used to bring you product to life - bespoke or template studio set. Many of our clients send us product if it is possible by courier - although if the product you produce is highly perishable and need absolute freshness, then we either collect it ourselves from you or shoot on site.
Can we cater for on site shoots?
Yes, and better still we have portable studio units to move to where you need the shot to take place. As a food photographer we bring props and backgrounds that will complement the shoot - hence we have a very big car! Normally a good window space is all we need to shoot your products or menu. If the shoot is an on site shoot event, we will work on the brief first, purchase props and ingredients to support the shoot on the day - making it all fresh for the shoot. We use tube lights only when necessary - not hot lights which cause damage to the dish or the product.
What about styling in the studio? Or are you just a food photographer?
We don't just deal with photography here in the studio, we often work as the sole food stylist ourselves or with an alternative skilled professional stylist - it all depends on what the client wants.
Our props store is now getting very large to cater or all tastes - contemporary or traditional. Backgrounds range from rustic to polished marble, traditional slate to a wide range of weathered timbers. We also have a wide range of cloth backgrounds, which we can use depending on your style choice. Tableware - we have over 2000 pieces which normally means we can cover most requests. The same for other props of the kitchen, dining place or even specialist areas so as catering, chocolate and brewing even!
Advertising or packaging photography?
As a photographer - we do all forms of photography images. Some of our clients require nothing more than simple styling of the product and then a hi-key white background - it's cut out to fit over designs. This is for packaging and as a photographer we are concerned about how the product looks in its purest sense. For other clients we do advertising or as we in the studio often call, lifestyle images. These at the extreme of photography artistry and are used in publishing and editorial clients - where the images is more artistic - selling the recipe, not just to the product.
In such cases we take a strong brief from you and then as photographer and stylist we compose a number of executions to sell your products as an experience. Lots of fun and loads of challenges! And then as a photographer we are asked to create promotional images - accents of ingredients, perhaps a little life style application but very much selling the products. A wide range for any photographer to work and we do it.

A food photography specialist, working throughout the food chain - field to fork - so to speak, with local food producers, restaurants and publishers, as well as the media and marketing or PR agencies that use the images for clients and promotional purposes. The studio works mainly on-site as we often have perishable products to shoot or chef is most at home in their own kitchen.
