Restaurant Photographer Inverness
After a major refurbishment and move, the RedPoppy restaurant celebrated the work coming to an end with a food and hospitality photo shoot – a full staff, interior photography shoot and then of course one of the menu. They have a highly talented chef here at the restaurant, creative in plate design and adventurous with taste and colour. Well worth a visit in an evening or indeed during the day where fine lunches are on offer from the restaurant and coffee for those who simply want to sit down on the sofas to relax, watching the world go by from the restaurant window.
We were asked in to photograph a selection from the latest menu for advertising, Facebook PR, and website use.

There’s nothing more exciting than a kitchen photo shoot.
A kitchen shoot with the drama and ballet of food preparation and the plate presentation taking place all in a frantic motion…all before the camera. Its a matter of simply capturing the motions…
Such a range of creativity from delicate starters, to more roust main dishes and then the deserts.
Using some of the finest Scottish ingredients, simple dishes with stunning colour and delicate taste were presented one after another for the shoot. YRSCommercial, Restaurant Photographer, Inverness..

The suitable contemporary fixtures of the restaurant would be at home in any flamboyant city – rich leather, solid timber tables, and flatware and glassware that literally sparkled! So our real task was how to make this look balanced – contemporary classy yes, but inviting for a coffee during the day. Lighting was key – by the huge windows it streamed in – the back – needed studio lighting and bounces to create the same lighting balance. We used abstract angles to increase the contemporary look – also to handle some of the architectural points – namely pillars and split flooring.
THE FOOD PHOTO SHOOT
One thing had to be considered in the food shoot. How to incorporate the brand colour in everything. Yes red… the only option was to use a background. The lighting had to be managed as spot lights we in the ceilings – this caused a little glare on the ceramics no matter where and how you placed them. And yes, we had to deal with the cabbage sail… Yes, quite extraordinary food, but a few of the dishes had a decorative cabbage sail. This meant that to keep all in focus angles to the plate had to be adopted – the sail being some 4 inches high! But we got there.

A busy shoot in the quiet village of Strapeffer some 20 miles north of Inverness, but the ingredients and the skills of the chef made it an eyeopener.
