Style: Food Photographer, Food Photography – Mellis Cheese
We’ve been shooting over 80 specialist fine cheeses – the studio has quite an odour – yes more than the usual one! From soft cheeses to hard and some that…well you have to be a real enthusiast to enjoy as they smell quite strange! Others were simply sublime – well the finger licks were. Key to the shoot was how to show cheese in a way that reduces the typography – by that we mean differing heights – some flat others tall, some with nice sides and others that have mould or staines which buyers may not realise as perfectly normal in the creation of the cheese itself. Then of course there is the composition challenge of how to make nice fine slices appear large and tall sections which they were taken from look balanced. So we shot it vertical. This means a lot more styling and thing about the composition – but that’s why you use a food photographer!
